The HealthFinders dental team recently brought their dental services to Jefferson Community School in Faribault for the first time. Forty-five students received dental examinations in one day, thanks to a collaboration between the Faribault Community School, HealthFinders and a grant from Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation to provide school-based sealant clinics and other dental services.
Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation supports Delta Dental of Minnesota's mission of improving the oral health of the people in Minnesota and advancing the science and art of oral health in Minnesota. The Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation supports initiatives that promote access to oral health and, in turn, improve the overall health and vitality of our community.
“At Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation, we are dedicated to improving health through oral health throughout Minnesota. We are proud to recognize the work being done by HealthFinders Collaborative and their dental program,” said Joe Lally, Executive Director Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation and Community Affairs.
HealthFinders uses a model of community-based health care, believing that health care happens in the home and in the community (schools too) as much as it does in the clinic. Belief in the community-based model is the reason that we often take our medical, dental, advocacy and wellness education services “into the community” and directly to the patients who need us. In fact, of the 2,000 dental appointments HealthFinders saw last year, over half occurred at community locations and organization-wide, appointments at community-based locations increased by 115% in the last year.
Our dental team, consisting of Dental Program coordinator and Collaborative Dental Hygienist Renae Blome, Advanced Dental Therapist Jenny Berg, and Dental Program Assistants Crystal Ruiz and Fausto Rodela first piloted HealthFinders school-based dental services at Greenvale Park Community School in Northfield to overwhelming community reception and success. We are all thrilled to now expand services to Faribault thanks
to our funding partner Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation . Thank you also to the Faribault Daily News for featuring our services on the front page of their May 4, 2018 issue.
