Expanding our Diabetes Program to Somali residents!

HealthFinders teamed-up with Banadir Restaurant in downtown Faribault to create
traditional Somalian food, in order to expand our food-choices thru our
Diabetes Program for the Somalian population!
Anne Doering, Medical Student at the University of Minnesota; Yakub Aden,
HealthFinders' Community Health Worker; and HealthFinders' Nurse Practitioner,
Emily Carroll headed a few doors down to Banadir to pick-up the Somalian food!

We mingled with the proud store workers, as day-to-day
activities continued and restaurant diners enjoyed their meals
casually at the back of the store.

Yakub pointed out various types of Somalian groceries and some of his favorite foods!
He even showed everyone what was in that little plastic container he is holding below!
(See final image of blog post)!
As our meals were packaged, we grabbed some bananas to add to our
'Diabetes-friendly' Somalian food plates.

One last "Thank You" with Banadir store-owner and we were off!

Emily and Anne created a series of food plates with the "Diabetes Plate Method"

that were photographed and will be used for upcoming diabetes presentations.

The images will help demonstrate a 'diabetes friendly' meal

to our Somalian Rice County residents, in a way they can relate to.
